Meet our founders, Mario and Julia;
Mario is a native, Costa Rican, Guanacasteco, veteran surf instructor in Tamarindo Beach with over 18 years of experience teaching surf to all levels of surfers, from beginner to intermediate and advanced. With Mario, you can rest assured you are in great hands as he is extremely familiar with the beaches in the are, as well as with the waves and the elements that affect the waves on many of Guanacaste’s North Pacific beaches. He is great with students of all ages. Mario is a logical and mathematical surfer, always calculating the best way to approach a wave. He is truly a beautiful surfer and has saltwater in his veins.
Julia is a Long Island, New York transplant to Guanacaste. She fell in love with surfing later in life and has been surfing for over 8 years. In that short period of time, she has surfed many fun waves on various beaches, east to west coasts, among them being Gilgo beach, Fire Island, Ditch Plains, La Jolla, Hermosa in California, Ocean Isle in North Carolina, Baja, La Ticla in Michoacán, Mexico, Waikiki and Makaha in Hawaii, Witches Rock, Playa Grande, Avellanas and of course, Tamarindo. She has trained with the Big Wave Risk Assessment Program, has trained as a Red Cross certified Life guard, is a Padi certified diver, and holds a master degree in Special and General Education.
Mario’s local expertise and Julia’s adventurous mind come together to create the dynamic team that is A New Day Surf School.
